About the Jamtse Tsokpa Foundation
In 1997, with the Blessings of H.H. the XIVth Dalai Lama
the Jamtse Tsokpa Foundation, Association of Compassion, was founded by two sisters, Stephanie Sabato and Cecily Sabato. The two sisters had the inspiration to find some way to offer financial assistance to the many Tibetans living in exile who they had met while studying in Dharmasala, India. In Dharmasala the sisters witnesses so much poverty and need, and yet were inspired by the enduring spirit of the Tibetan people.
Over time their inspiration grew into a burning desire to do something. As this urge flowered within them, the two sisters gathered the courage to request the Dalai Lama's advice and blessing to start the Jamtse Tsokpa Foundation. With the Dalai Lama's blessings and under the spiritrual guidance of HH the Dalai Lama, H.E. Garje Khamtrul Rinpoche and the Venerable Tenzin Choeden, the Jamtse Tsokpa became a living reality.
Over time, Cecily Sabato, moved into a position as the Foundation's advisor and the daily operation came under the direction of a Board of Directors headed by Stephanie Sabato as President, Joseph Gorski (Stephanie's husband) as Treasurer and Sponsorship Chair, and Terri Erickson-Harper as Secretary.
